The Institution was started on 23rd August 1997 as a unit of Marthandam Integrated Development Society (MIDS), named as Kanyakumari Community College with the aim and objective of creating self confidence among young generation by providing valuable skills and training to secure full employment and self employment. The founder of the institution is Rev.Fr. Prem Kumar, MSW. The college was started with several job oriented diploma programmes. All the diploma courses were self designed in accordance with fulfilling requirement of manpower skills in the present business scenario. The curriculum for job oriented commerce based diploma courses as mentioned below was developed and designed in accordance with the University norms by Prof.V.Arul Justin Dhas and his team members of the college. The three courses are.
1. Diploma in Computerized Financial Accounting (DCFA).
2. Diploma in Business Oriented Computer Application (DBOCA).
3. Diploma in Foreign Trade and Import-Export Documentation (DFTIED).
Second Stage- Integration of B.Com with Diploma programmes
The innovative concept of integrating B.Com degree with three of the above job oriented Diploma courses is a milestone achievement and its implementation as "Integrated Scheme of Study" in the academic year 2000-2001. The scheme reduces the academic career of students from six years to three years.
Third Stage - Merging of CA coaching with Integrated Scheme of Study
For uplifting the commercial skills to the international standards and inducting the professional skills, the above scheme as stated in the second stage has been re-modified by incorporating Chartered Accountancy coaching in the academic year 2014-2015. The study package is being conducted under a separate unit of Kanyakumari Community College and named as "Malankara School of Commerce". The scheme consists of CA-CPT/Foundation and CA-IPCC/Intermediate (Coaching Classes) together with B. Com /M.B.A (DDE Programme) and three regular diploma programmes of Directorate of Vocational Education of M.S. University.
